Going into the final match away to Ukraine, in Poland; Scotland knew that a draw would win the group, meaning promotion, seeding for the Euro qualification draw, and qualification for the Euro play-offs. Scotland were not short of squad problems though. In addition to the previous injuries, Kieran Tierney and Scott McKenna were injured, Scott McTominay was suspended, and there were also doubts over Adams and Dykes as they had both been ill.

Scotland almost took an early lead after 2 minutes when a Che Adams shot was saved. Ukraine should have taken the lead after 8 minutes when Yarmolenko skied a shot over the bar when he had an open goal. Midway through the first half Dovbyk was through on goal but Craig Gordon made the save. A minute later Scotland were awarded a penalty when a Ryan Fraser cross was judged by the referee to have hit the defender's hand. After looking at VAR, the referee changed his decision as it hit the defender's chest. On the half hour mark Ryan Jack shot just over the bar. At the start of the second half, Gordon made a great save from a long range shot from Mudryk. A few minutes later, he made another save from a Ignatenko shot. With 12 minutes remaining, Stepanenko volleyed past the post. Scotland held on for a goalless draw to top the group, win promotion to group A, and also win a place in the playoffs for Euro 2024 finals.
