In the build up to Scotland's opening Euro 2024 qualifier, the big talking point was about who would be in goal. After Craig Gordon suffered a double leg break, Angus Gunn was called up to the squad with Zander Clark and Liam Kelly, none of whom had won a single cap. It was Angus Gunn who got the nod from Steve Clark.

Scotland made a positive start to the match, and after 12 minutes Aaron Hickey had a low shot saved at the right hand post. Eight minutes later Scotland took the lead. Robertson received a ball down the left from Armstrong. His cross into the box was deflected to the back post where McGinn placed a side foot volley past the keeper. Three minutes before half time, Che Adams had a shot palmed over the bar. With three minutes remaining Scotland made it 2-0. Christie chased a ball down the right hand wing, before he crossed it into the box. Dykes headed it into the path of McTominay, who controlled it with his right knee before hitting a half volley past the keeper with his left foot. Three minutes into injury time, Scotland got a third. Christie put a low cross into the box from the left. It was blocked by a defender but fell to Robertson, who layed it off into the path of McTominay, who side footed it past the keeper into an empty net. Two minutes later Cyprus had a player sent off for a second yellow card when he kicked the ball away. It was a positive start to the campaign for Scotland, who were sitting at the top of the table.
