Scotland 2-1 Republic of Ireland

Following the Ukraine victory, Scotland were on a high. They were without Patterson, and Steve Clarke had the decision over Dykes or Adams. Dykes got the nod.

Scotland got an early fright when Troy Parrott had a goal ruled out for offside. Ireland then took an early lead after only 18 minutes. A corner into the box was not cleared properly, and the loose ball was controlled by Nathan Collins before John Egan slotted it home. Four minutes into the second half Scotland got their equaliser. A cross from the left by Ryan Christie was headed in to the far corner by Jack Hendry. Five minutes later Ireland should have been back in front. Scotland were caught on the break, and Obafemi set up Parrott who was through one on one with Gordon, but he shot straight at the keeper who made a great save with his leg. With just over 20 minutes left, Ryan Fraser had a shot tipped over the bar. Ten minutes later Scotland were awarded a penalty. A Scott McTominay header was blocked by the hand of Alan Browne, and the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped Ryan Christie and he rolled the ball into the net to give Scotland a 2-1 lead. In injury time, Craig Gordon made two saves, first Seamus Coleman then Jason Knight, but Scotland came away with a 2-1 win. This meant that they only needed a draw against Ukraine to top the group and win promotion.
