Spain 2-0 Scotland

Going into the Spain match, Scotland knew that a draw would be enough to see them qualify. The bad knews was that Kieran Tierney was injured and could not travel to Spain.

Spain were after revenge and almost got off to a great start after only a minute when Ferran Torres was through one on one, but shot just wide of the post. Just after the half hour mark, a dominant Spain came close again. This time a shot Mikel Merino hit the inside of the post and the ball rolled along in front of the goal. Scotland made a better start to the second half, and just before the hour mark Scott McTominay beat the keeper with a direct free-kick curling into the top corner, from a tight angle. It sent the Scotland players and fans into a state of ecstasy. The joy was short lived though as the referee was called over to the VAR monitor, and disallowed the goal. That decision looked to give Spain a massive boost, and they upped their game. Thirteen minutes later substitute Jesus Navas crossed the ball in from the right for Morata to head the ball past Gunn and give Spain the lead. With Ten minutes left Hickey made a run into the box and when he made a shot towards the back post, Adams stuck his foot out in front of goal, but the keeper saved it. A couple of minutes later Armstrong had a great chance but shot over the bar from right in front of the goal. At the other end Joselu rounded Gunn, but Porteus cleared his shot. A minute later Scotland looked to be in no trouble, but Hickey slipped and Joselu picked up the ball and rolled it across the goal for Sancet. It looked like Porteus had made a great tackle, but the ball went in off Sancet to make it 2-0. It was Scotland's first defeat of the campaign, but if Norway fail to beat Spain in Oslo in three days, Scotland will qualify.
