With Scotland flying high at the top of Group B, they now faced a tough trip to Ukraine to play the World Cup quarter finalists. In the first half Ukraine had a couple of chances to take the lead, but both times Gordon came to Scotland's rescue. Two minutes into the second half Shevchenko hit the post. On the hour mark Ukraine finally broke down the Scotland defence. A free kick was floated into the box, and a clearence by McFadden took a deflection off Sviderskiy to fall into the path of Kucher, who drilled a low shot past Gordon. Miller came close to equalising, when he crossed the ball in and it deceived the keeper and hit the bar. With ten minutes remaining, Robbie Neilson floated in a cross for Miller to head a glorious chance just wide. Six minutes later, Pressley received a red card in a harsh decision for fouling Shevchenko as he ran towards goal. In the last minute Shevchenko went down in the box after a challenge by Neilson, and a penalty was given in another harsh decision. Shevchenko sent Gordon the wrong way to give Ukraine a 2-0 victory and end Scotland's 100% record.
