Scotland suffered many withdrawls prior to the Sweden match. Keeper David Marshall had an elbow injury, Lee McCulloch had a viral infection, Andy Webster injured his hamstring, Alan Hutton his groin and Graham Dorrans also withdrew. They added to Craig Gordon and Gary Caldwell who were already injured. Gordon broke his arm in pre-season training and Caldwell had a long term inury.

The match couldn't have got off to a worse start as after only 3 minutes Sweden went ahead. A great passing move down the left ended with Wermbloom passing to Ibrahimovic who was right in front of goal to pass the ball into the net. McGregor then made two saves to prevent Sweden going further ahead. Scotland's first chance came after half an hour when the keeper fumbled a McFadden cross that fell to Adam but the keeper recovered to save his shot. Sweden doubled their lead just before half time. Bajrami got in behind the defence and scored the rebound shot after McGregor had saved his first. In the second half Mellberg hit the bar before Toivonen made it three, heading in an Ibrahimovic cross. Midway through the second half, substitute Kris Boyd forced a save from Isaksson, but it was all that Scotland could do in a poor performance.
