Scotland and Qatar set up an annual event between themselves and Qatar called the Qatar Airways Cup, with the inaugural tournament held at Easter Road.  Scotland looked the much better team, and after 20 minutes, Naismith had a shot palmed over the bar.  Five minutes later Ritchie shot wide after he received a Forsyth cross.  Five minutes before half time, as Scotland pushed forward, Naismith had an intended ball for McArthur blocked by a defender, and the ball fell to Ritchie just outside the box, who hit a low shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net, to give Scotland a 1-0 lead.  On the stroke of half time, McArthur played a ball through to Naismith who had a shot come back off the post.  Five minutes into the second half, Naismith headed wide of the left hand post from a Ritchie corner.  With 15 minutes remaining, Craig Gordon made a good save to prevent Qatar from equalising.  Substitute Johnny Russell had two half chances late on, but the game ended 1-0.  A couple of days later, Scotland cut their ties with Qatar, as reports of their human rights came out.
